The National Council
The National Council is a 501(c)(3) organization founded in 2010 by a group of incarcerated women at the federal prison in Danbury, CT, many of whom are mothers. The organization is dedicated to ending the criminal legal system's forced separation of women and girls from their communities and loved ones. Through grassroots organizing, public education, movement lawyering, and the national #FreeHer Campaign, the National Council advocates for systemic change. Additionally, the organization is committed to addressing the global incarceration of women through its International Network, working to end the injustices faced by women worldwide.
